Species: Xin

- in 2053, xin made contact with humans
- in 2055, full war was declared
- in 2060, the xin won and finally succeeded in communicating their intent: not to conquer, but to ally
- by 2075, 75% of countries had legalized xin as equal citizens
- in 2100, there were roughly 10 million xin on Earth (and roughly 4.5 billion humans)

xin features:

- tall (average 8 ft, give or take up to 1 ft) bipeds
- gaunt, lean, narrow
- very long-limbed except in the neck
- keratin plating over tough leathery hide (a step down from armadillo) in most places: head, shoulders, back, outer arms and legs, shins
- can easily resort to moving on hands and feet in difficult terrain, but legs are longer than arms so they move bipedally when on level terrain
- can run quadrupedally with decent speed - up to 12-15 mph
- tend to be browns or dark greys or grey-greens, rarely grey-blues or bronze/coppery or black (melanistic)
- very long-fingered hands, three fingers and a long thumb, all tipped in fingernail-like claws, all knuckles covered in a sharpish pointed 'barb'
- green-tinted blood
- very rapid healing of flesh wounds, especially blood-clotting and tissue regeneration; reasonable healing of bones and connective tissues (still better than humans)
- digitigrade legs, smallish feet with four tough digits tipped in talons
- longish and flexible torso
- semi-brachiating shoulders
- fairly humanoid head with a slight muzzle, nostril slits, large completely black (or deep blue, green, brown) eyes, two sets of eyelids (inner one translucent), long prehensile tongue (giraffe-like) that's stretchable, thin unflexible lips (reptilian), internal ears with small pointed immobile 'points' as ears
- sharp, small teeth with only a few molars in the very back
- have strong pheromones and sensitive noses; fantastic eyesight that's not great in really bright light but excellent in low and medium light; so-so hearing (worse than humans but not deaf)
- no visible genitals: cloaca
- lay soft squishy eggs that later harden and mature
- no tail
- omnivorous; tend towards fish, leafy greens and roots, and scavenged meat

xin culture:

- very social creatures
- because of rapid healing, brief fights to establish order or to express emotions are common and socially acceptable; no one scars
- xin do poorly at self-restraint
- showing teeth is a sign of aggression/hostility/fear
- primitive vocal chords; can make basic set of screechy sounds, but no spoken language
- have complex, sophisticated sign language (also have learned some human sign languages)
- tend to communicate best visually, not audibly
- death is a rare and important thing; because of how quick they heal and how common their violence (and thus how hard they are to kill, being resilient and combat-trained), death is a huge cornerstone of their cultures
- intensely tribal within the larger society, whether that tribe is based on a common interest, profession, bloodline, or whatever
- physical intimacy is a social bonding act, used outside of breeding/reproducing

xin technology:

- great medicine/surgery
- large, somewhat slow colony spaceships with small ship-to-planet zippy crafts (zipcrafts! zipships?)
- excellent communication devices, almost all visual-based, including written languages
- comparatively primitive weapons, tending towards melee weapons instead of ballistics
- more advanced than humans, but not teleporting-everywhere advanced
