Name - Olashi [pronounced 'oh-LASH-ee']
Size - 5.5-6.5 feet tall, with females being slightly smaller than males.
Physical Description - With a sleek feline pelt and a slight, often nonexistent humanish mane, Olashi stand upright with a muscular body, though they often angle their spine at a 45º tilt while moving. Their upper body is vaguely akin to that of a male human, aside from the bulging chest/flank muscles which support their wings, and their legs are digitigrade and muscular, ending in four-toed feline paws with retractable claws. Olashi have a feline head with a pronounced muzzle and saberfangs that often reach two inches in length and are always visible. They have binocular-vision eyes, which otherwise appear feline, black or pink feline-noses, and pointed but comparitively small feline ears. Their nimble hands possess three powerful, retractably-clawed fingers and a rather long thumb with the same hooked claw. They have long, tufted feline tails. They are, of course, winged beasts and possess heavily-feathered, very broad pinions. They are superb fliers, with smaller and lighter individuals able to go up to 200 mph in a stoop (dive).
Coloration - Always a very light color. Either silvery, cream/pale tan, gold, pearl, or white. Their wings are generally a lighter shade than their body. Claws are either silver, ivory, or black, depending on the shade of their fur, and eyes are either light violet, pale blue, or pastel green. Olashi occasionally wear clothing, usually to protect their furred selves from the elements. Tunics can be any shade, usually bold bright colors, though hunters tend towards earth tones. Some very, very few Olashi can alter their fur and skin coloration at will, much like chameleons (or, more accurately, like the Sky Cats from which they've evolved.)
Temperament - Not a race to crumble under pressure, Olashi are very logical but also live by their hearts. A species of scientists, explorers, archers, bards, and adventurers, almost any Olashi will take a challenge or obsession and run with it… occasionally running off a cliff in the process. They tend to be very open and trusting to those they know, but strangers are rewarded with a very aloof, wary attitude. Unlike most species on Lavana, they evolved from Sky Cats (as opposed to being Created) and are in the process of crafting the only actual humanoid 'culture' on Lavana. (Millenia in the future, it's Olashi who develop technology, academies, and eventually spaceflight.)
Olashi [pronunciation - oh-LASH-ee || plural - Olashi]
Home World~ Lavana, though they've colonized Base (technical name is Lybreth) and added some of their population to an already-sentiently habited planet just called Wings.
Height at the Shoulder~ Four to six feet, with males tending to be a few inches taller on average.
Colouration~ Always a very light color. Either silvery, cream/pale tan, gold, pearl, or white. Their wings are generally a lighter or darker shade than their body. Claws are either silver, ivory, or black, depending on the shade of their fur, and noses are usually pink, unless fur is gold or cream, in which case they'll be black.
Clothing~ Olashi adults wear clothing, usually to protect their furred selves from the elements. Tunics can be any shade, usually bold bright colors, though traders tend towards subtler, pearly shades. On Lavana, clothing is very casual and often neglected, but when worn, a top-piece is rarely added. On ships, Base, and other alien planets / docks, trousers or breeches are usually worn with a loose shirt. Boots are made and kept on ships, just in case hostile ground requires paw/talon protection. Ranking officers wear a silver (Captain or commanding officer) or gold (other rank) circlet about their brow, from which hangs a small jewel. In ship officers, the jewel is a small piece of Crazouli crystal, the facets of which give the officer a good view of everything around him/her as it dangles between their furred brows. Occasionally, a decoy will be employed, a non-ranking Olashi wearing the circlet — usually when sent into a volatile situation, or when doing recon. Jewelry -ear piercings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets, and tail rings- are greatly valued and usually made of precious metals and stones, though the most common is the malleable, aquamarine metal rypil, which is easily molded into softly-chiming chains and rings.
Temperament~ Nearly all Olashi are skilled under pressure and have excellent logic. A species of scientists, mechanics, pilots, and adventurers, any Olashi will take a challenge and run with it… occasionally running off a cliff in the process. They are completely insane in some ways, rational in others. They're very open and trusting, even to alien species, but in the same way they're subtle and show only what they need. Unlike most species on Lavana, they evolved from Sky Tigers (as opposed to being Created from nothing), the only sentient race known to have done this, and designed and built the only high-tech machinery on Lavana.
Description~ Olashi are winged bipeds. With soft downy fur that is short to medium length and a slight humanish mane, they stand completely upright with a muscular body. With both genders' upper body vaguely akin to a male human, aside from the bulging flank muscles which support their wings, and toned digitigrade legs, they aren't overly impressive creatures. A very feline face plus two four-inch fangs on the upper jaw and one fang, just as long, centered in the lower jaw will catch your eye, especially considering that their jaw can unhinge and slide back and forward to cut flesh and bone in half with ease. However, Olashi are herbivorous, and evolved such a nasty set of choppers in order to break open the nuts and cones that they love. Some Olashi eat fish on special occasions, but that is the limit of their taste for once-living flesh. They have binocular-vision eyes, which otherwise appear feline, black or pink feline-noses, with long pointed ears that are slicked back against their skull with the tips curving upwards. Their ears will flick up in upset or alarm, or when being attacked. The ear can cup in a certain way as to funnel sounds directly into their inner ear - an instinct when in danger, when even the slightest sound means life or death. Moods can be judged from the tip of the ear - be it furled down (upset), curved up (pleased), tucked in (angry), or straight out (hiding emotion). Their hands are retractably clawed, with four fingers and a very long thumb. Their hind feet have either large paws or talon-like feet, both with massive, unretractable claws. Their tail is either tufted and leonine or avian. They have a set of avian wings, as well. Heavily feathered, they often shield themselves from enemies by enveloping themselves in their wings. They are superb fliers, going up to 200 mph in a stoop. In normal motions, they are still lightning-fast. Their language is an incredibly fast whistling one, hard to translate, let alone learn, for other species. About half of this tongue is out of range of human hearing, and a third out of range for the average Lavanian.
Slim-Wings~ They have a race, a mutation, a sub-individual whatever you'd like to call it that's markedly different from the average Olashi. These individuals are always given up at birth to orphanages. They, instead of avian wings, have smoothly-furred draconic wings, lending them an extra bit of speed that feathered Olashi cannot hope to match, as well as an extreme agility in flight. Physically, they're not as broad and powerful, tending towards short and slender. They're very rare, but are not handicapped in any way.
Technology~ Olashi are masters of technology, most notably weaponry. The most famous Olashi weapon is undeniably the DB - a small, handheld gun mockingly named Dyone Blaster, or blaster for short. This slender, spired weapon is no more than a slim barrel and a hilt, usually a silvery or pearly colour and utterly harmless-looking. However, in the butt of the gun is a small, live Crazouli crystal, the charged gem able to, through a complex system of triggers and wires, fire a precise beam of raw energy from the tip of the barrel. There are two rows of four buttons down the hilt, the buttons embedded into the hilt so that it takes a clawtip to reach them — these control the intensity and width of the beam. The trigger itself is embedded upon the flank of the barrel on each side, where an Olashi thumb can reach it easily. Blasters are easily fired with either hand, which is a good thing, as Olashi tend to be ambidextrous.
Olashi also are excellent in communication, being as they are very vocal creatures. Their greatest device to aid this is the comset or comunit. The device is a small, spherical device that fits perfectly into a cavity of the Olashi's middle ear. With extreme care and the very tip of a sharp claw, it can be adjusted to different channels, the volume adjusted, and even turned off. A nearly silent whisper from the wearer will be heard through flesh in the comunit, which transmits the sound via Crazouli power on whatever frequency to which it's attuned. Technically, the one-ear "bug" is the comunit, and two of the "bugs" -one for each ear- connected by a miniscule, transparent wire is the comset, but the names are used interchangeably.
They have several classes of ships, though it's a common thing for an Olashi in an academy on Base to learn to pilot while modifying their own one-being fighter into something more comfortable for them. It's a rare thing indeed for an Olashi to graduate and fly their own, unmodified ship. Speaking of ships, their names tend to have something about air, wings, weather, or flight in them.
